Andrew had his speech evaluation last week. We were there for 2 hrs while the speech therapist had him do a few things while observing his speech. First she had him and i play with some animals and dinosaurs on the floor (about 10mins). Then she had him color pictures while her and i talked and while she wrote down the history of his stuttering. Now this part is hard to explain so I'm going to make a small diagram in hopes it makes it easier. I made it smaller then what she had. The diagram below is a graft representing the syllables in his speech, each box with the dash represents normal talking, the diagonal ones are when he stuttered, and then she tallied each line and gave a percentage mark on how often he stuttered. She said that when we were playing together he stuttered 5%. Then she got him to make up a story from the pictures from a picture book. She said he stuttered about 8% then. She gave us some exercises to do at home, like talking to him slower in 5 min increments, something like Mr Rogers from Mr Rogers neighborhood. Let him be aware of bumpy talk and smooth talk. She wants to see him once a week for how long i don't know. She is unsure if he will have this for the rest of his life or if it will go away in time.
